Poole in Spring

Gardens coming good, a harbour warming faster than the sea, and beaches you can have largely to yourself.

Spring is when Poole starts moving again, and for a few weeks you get the place at close to its best with hardly anyone in it.

The gardens

Compton Acres is the obvious draw, with the themed gardens coming into their own. Upton Country Park and Poole Park are free alternatives.

The water

Poole Harbour is shallow, mostly under two metres, so it warms considerably faster than the open bay. That makes spring the point at which watersports become comfortable again, well before the sea beaches do.

The beaches

Empty on a weekday, parking straightforward, and the light better than it will be all summer. See beaches.

What is on

The season starts at Easter, with boat services increasing and attractions reopening. See Easter in Poole and what's on.
