Poole High Street is unusual in that it starts at a working quay and ends at a shopping centre, passing through several centuries on the way.
The old end
Nearest the Quay, the street runs through the historic quarter, where the buildings are listed and the shops tend to be independent: galleries, makers, cafes and pubs.
The modern end
Further up, the street meets the modern centre and the Dolphin Centre, where the chains are.
